With all the press about arsenic in apple seeds, but also if you happen to know someone with their very own private orchard, this is an easy and healthy way to make your own applesauce. Much easier than canning, in my opinion. Sally loves it and it is easy for her to eat, especially while learning how to manage a spoon.
Recipe: Organic Chunky Applesauce
6 organic apples ( I find mixing varieties makes it even yummier)
1/2 cup water
Cinnamon to taste
Peel and slice apples. I like to slice the apples around the core (I am lazy!). Place into microwave safe dish (ceramic or glass) pour in water. You can add more water if you want a runnier applesauce. Microwave for about 15 minutes, stirring every three minutes. When apples are cooked to liking, use a spoon to chop up to desired consistency or puree if you want smooth applesauce. I like it chunky! Add Cinnamon to taste. Enjoy! Yield: About 2 cups.
